It’s harvest time again, and Tenute Rubino and its staff are ready to welcome journalists, oeno-tourists, wine lovers, and – from this year – the participants to the international photography contest Salento Photography Tellers. The registration process has begun for the first edition of the contest, through which the Brindisian winery intends to promote a symbol of Apulia’s winemaking excellence and authentic viticultural traditions: the Women’s Harvest.

The visitors will take part to a guided tour of the vineyards and will have a chance to observe, appreciate and take pictures of the harvest’s most significant moments. It will be an opportunity to spend a day amid the splendid rows of Susumaniello, and to taste a vast selection of the firm’s labels paired with delicious local dishes from Salento.

The photographers intending to compete in the section dedicated to Tenute Rubino’s Women’s Harvest will be able to spend one further day in the vineyards: indeed, they will have access to the Jaddico Estate from 6.30 to 12.00 AM, not only on the 18th but on Friday the 17th as well.

The Women’s Harvest' – Rubino continues – 'is mark, both ancient and innovative, of the bond between the culture of wine and the communities of Salento; an anthropological and cultural factor which determines, along with the territory and the native varietals, the quality of the wines produced in this area of oenological excellence in the Mezzogiorno. We want to extend an opportunity to oeno-tourists, winelovers and photographers' – concludes Rubino – 'to observe closely the picking of Susumaniello grapes; a chance to appreciate and portray the great passion and preciseness with which our women workers perform the delicate rite of the harvest".

Image related to: The Women's Harvest 2010 at Tenute RubinoVendemmia delle DonneThe Salento Photography Tellers contest will take place entirely on-line, through the www.tenuterubino.com website. It is divided into three sections, devised so as to provide a wide and innovative view on Salento: not only on its beautiful coastlands and on its compelling stories, but also on the peculiar characteristic which is driving Apulian viticulture to the attention of the worldwide consumer market. By dedicating a section to the Women’s Harvest, the contest is shedding light on those agricultural communities which have not yet relinquished Salento’s historical memory. Today, thanks to firms such as Tenute Rubino, these communities are taking part to a project which offers communicative and qualitative cues for the innovation of the territory and of its wine.  The pictures competing in this section will have to interpret this ancient custom of Salento, passed down from generation to generation, by means of which the women of the local communities have become unparalleled masters in the arts of viticulture.
