Terroir
Punta Aquila, in the countryside south of Brindisi, is a 15-hectare estate entirely dedicated to the growing of Primitivo, the best-known Apulian native grape. It’s found its perfect growing conditions here in the estate thanks to a peculiar microclimate characterized by marked diurnal temperature variations.
The vines in Punta Aquila are all spurred cordon-trained, established at a density of 6000 plants per hectare. The soil consists mostly of yellowish sands over deeper layers of blue-grey clay deposits, rich in fine gravel and an arenaceous-calcarenite base. These distinct soils create a Primitivo with balanced acidity, optimal sugar content and excellent aging potential.
