The seventh edition of Aspettando San Martino was a great party celebrating Negroamaro, Primitivo and Susumaniello through an exciting sensory journey in the name of taste and – once again – music. Having raised our glasses and roasted chestnuts on an open fire, it was time for the Wine Show, featuring the seductive voice of Kirsten Joy, lead vocalist of the English band Clean Bandit.
The first time is never forgotten, especially for an event that has become a classic for wine lovers throughout Puglia: the Greek-inspired symposium, where wine tasting was accompanied by singing, music, or recitations, immediately became the hallmark of Aspettando San Martino. In 2010, the event featured a performance by the Raffaele Passiante Quartet, a musical journey through wine and songs from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, set in the evocative scenario of the Tenute Rubino barrique cellar.
The return of Aspettando San Martino in 2012 was a grand affair. A long celebration for the new wine, with two full days of events, where Puglian wine lovers and others had the opportunity to deeply explore the spaces and production techniques of the Brindisi winery, taste Tenute Rubino wines along with many Puglian culinary specialties, and be moved by the poetry of the ‘TeatroDellePietre’ company, the jazz notes of Jazzabanna, and the voice of Raffaele Passiante, accompanied by Nero Briganti.
For the second consecutive year, Aspettando San Martino 2013 saw wine meet theater, thanks to the work of the Meridiani Perduti company. Among tastings and samples of traditional Puglian cuisine, they celebrated the new wine with an unusual and engaging production. This particular edition confirmed the event’s place in the hearts of Puglian enthusiasts, thanks to an atmosphere that evoked authentic beauty and dreams lost in time.
The third edition was marked by theater, confirming the success of a unique format capable of combining wine culture and the emotions of great art in one night. The protagonist of Aspettando San Martino 2014 was the theater company Meridiani Perduti with the show “Gran Varietà,” a tribute to 60 years of RAI, whose broadcasts began on January 1, 1954.
While in previous editions Tenute Rubino had reinvented its production spaces, adapting them for theatrical performances, the 2016 edition of Aspettando San Martino focused on food, wine, and music. The event featured succulent finger food dishes prepared by the Numero Primo team and the explosive voice of Will Diamond, a fantastic entertainer.
Gathered at the Brindisi winery on Via Enrico Fermi, Puglian wine lovers did not miss the call, welcoming the new vintage in the spirit of conviviality. The evening was ignited by the voice of Michelle Perera, accompanied by Area Beat, amidst tastings of some of Tenute Rubino’s finest labels and gourmet delights from Numero Primo.
The fine bubbles of Sumarè 24 months and the intriguing ones of Libens opened the 2018 edition of Aspettando San Martino. After being moved by the intense voice of Yvonne Park, a London singer with a rich soul repertoire, the guests danced to the DJ set curated by Maurizio Macrì, one of Salento’s most renowned producers.
