Visellio 2022:  three Accolades, unanimous praise for an outstanding vintage

92.5 points from AIS Vitae and 93 points from Doctor Wine and Falstaff: shared acclaim ahead of the new vintage’s release.

Brindisi – It is rare for three authoritative wine guides to award such closely aligned scores to the same wine. This is the case with Tenute Rubino’s Visellio Primitivo Salento IGT 2022, which has received 92.5 points from AIS Vitae, 93 points from Doctor Wine and 93 points from Falstaff. These assessments recognise its quality even before its market debut, as the vintage continues to mature in bottle.

What makes this consensus particularly significant is the distinct perspective of each publication. Vitae, the guide published by the Italian Sommelier Association, draws on Italian sommeliers’ tasting expertise and knowledge of wine regions; Doctor Wine, founded and edited by Daniele Cernilli, offers a critical overview of Italian winemaking through the selections in its Essential Guide to Italian Wine; Falstaff, a leading wine and gastronomy publication, brings an international perspective. The closely matched scores reflect shared appreciation among critics with different approaches and audiences.

One of the Brindisi estate’s signature crus, Visellio is made from Primitivo grapes grown at Uggìo-Punta Aquila, on the Salento plateau. Produced only in the finest vintages and aged in French oak barriques, it displays an intense, powerful character: ripe fruit notes and Mediterranean aromas combine with a generous structure, velvety tannins, a supple texture and a long finish.

Its name preserves a link with the area’s history, recalling the ancient owner of the Roman fundus on which some of the estate’s vineyards now stand. His kilns produced the amphorae used to transport Puglian wine across the Mediterranean.

The three guides’ agreement recognises Tenute Rubino’s longstanding commitment to bringing out the full potential of Primitivo. For Visellio 2022, time in bottle is now adding the finishing touches before its public debut.
