Celebrating Appia Day 2025: in Brindisi, a journey through wine, history, and UNESCO landscapes
On October 4th, 2025, Brindisi celebrates Appia Day, the day dedicated to the “queen of Roman roads,” recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event will feature local wineries coming together to narrate, through wine, the millennia-old history of the Appian and Trajan Ways.

We at Tenute Rubino are proud to take part in the initiative, alongside other Brindisi wineries, sharing the theme “Wines and vineyards of the final stretch of the ancient Appian Way.” This will be a unique opportunity to discover native grape varieties – Susumaniello, Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera, Primitivo, Verdeca, and Minutolo – along a path that intertwines historical memory, landscape, and territorial identity.
Throughout the day, visitors will enjoy unique experiences: tastings, vineyard walks, tours of traditional farmhouses, carriage rides, and evocative views of the port.
At Tenute Rubino, guests will be welcomed with Mulsum, the honey wine of the ancient Romans, a symbol of conviviality and hospitality, paired with a selection of local cheeses. This will be followed by an immersive journey through the winery’s most evocative spaces, including the barrel cellar, and on to the discovery of the history of the Jaddico Estate, located along the Via Traiana, where excavations have uncovered Roman-era archaeological finds. The visit will conclude with an exclusive tasting of three labels produced from grapes grown on the estate:
- Giancòla 2022 – IGT Salento Malvasia Bianca
- Saturnino 2024 – DOC Brindisi Rosato Negroamaro
- Jaddico 2019 – DOC Brindisi Riserva Negroamaro Susumaniello
Guided tours of the winery will end around 1:00 PM, but the Appia Day program will continue at Tenute Lu Spada, with a talk and a shared tasting. Speakers will include Angela Ferroni (Ministry of Culture), Tonino Bruno (designer of the Urban Archaeological Park of the Appian Way in Brindisi), institutional representatives, and all participating wineries.
Theme of the meeting: “In Brindisi, vineyards, wineries, and history intertwine in a cultural, economic, and tourist potential still waiting to be fully expressed. The UNESCO recognition: an opportunity not to be missed.”
All experiences are free of charge, with mandatory booking through the websites and contacts of the participating wineries.
