APULIAN ITINERARIES BETWEEN WINERIES AND CULTURE – THE NORTHERN BARI AREA

ITINERARI PUGLIESI FRA CANTINE E CULTURA – IL NORD BARESEPuglia is actually one of the most desired Italian travel destinations. Sea, gastronomy, hospitality and culture create an irresistible mix, which drives visitors to return and very often to dream of spending the rest of their life in the heel of Italy. As good residents in love with this land, we try to suggest places and traditions to experience first-hand during a holiday in Puglia, with a privileged eye towards wine tourism, our main field of action.

The Bari Palese Airport is the main gateway to the region, hence today’s itinerary kicks off from here, to discover the treasures of the northern Bari area. First stop Trani. Marine city of great interest for its famous cathedral facing the waterfront, an excellent example of Romanesque architecture, Trani is a not to be missed place during a trip to Puglia. Also recommended for its pleasant Muscat, on whose tasting notes you can spend a pleasant evening in the alleys of the old town, which especially in summer are full of people.

We can then leave Trani, in order to retire to the countryside, discovering the hidden treasures of this land. Through the network of companies that are part of the consortium Puglia Best Wine, it is possible to taste the best of Apulian wine directly at the producer’s. One of these is located a few kilometers from CanosaCefalicchio farm. At their cosy mansion, you can visit the winery and taste some of the most typical local varieties like Nero di Troia and Bombino.

Our itinerary continues towards Andria, in whose territory lies Castel del Monte, UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its unique octagonal shape and the mysticism that characterizes the atmosphere, make Castel del Monte a unique place, full of charm and mystery. Once visited the castle of Frederick II you can turn your attention back to wine: Castel del Monte is also an important DOCG appellation, thus it is good to schedule another visit to a cellar.

In fact today’s route ends with a tasting at the farm of Count Spagnoletti Zeuli, located a few kilometres from the castle. Among the many wines of the cellar, we recommend the taste of Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva, the flagship wine of viticulture in the north of Apulia.
This concludes our first trip itinerary of Puglia. See you soon for new adventures between wine and culture, pointing our gaze to the south.
